Part of Choosing an Automatic

The A3 Delta is our side-opening automatic, and the Forged Carbon Edition gives it the handle material we reserve for our best folders. The blade, the button and the lock are the Delta people know. The scales are what changed. Here is what the edition brings and who it suits.

01

Forged Carbon Scales

Forged carbon is carbon fiber set in resin under heat and pressure, and the process leaves a marbled pattern that no two handles share. It is light, rigid, and indifferent to water and sweat, which makes it as practical on a working knife as it is handsome on a desk. On the Delta it adds a visual depth the other handle options do not have, without changing how the knife carries.

02

Side-Opening Deployment

The Delta is an OTS automatic: press the button and the blade swings out and locks, with a safety switch that keeps it from firing in a pocket. The button lock releases with the same thumb, so the knife opens and closes one-handed, which is the reason it is the TEKTO knife we recommend for gloved work. The blade is a 3.60-inch drop point in D2 tool steel.

03

Weight and Balance

At 5.96 ounces, the Delta is the heaviest knife in our automatic line, and the weight is where it should be: in the hand, not the pocket clip. The D2 blade and the forged carbon scales keep the knife lighter than a full-metal handle would, and the 5.20-inch handle gives a full four-finger grip with the 8.90-inch open length to match.

04

Edge Life and Care

D2 is a high-carbon tool steel that holds an edge for a long time and sharpens back at the 20-degree angle every TEKTO blade leaves with. Its one habit is a liking for a film of oil in wet conditions. A wipe-down after a damp day keeps it clean. Our D2 steel guide explains what the steel is and is not.

05

The Grip

The contoured handle carries texture and jimping where the thumb and forefinger land, so the knife stays put in a wet or gloved hand. That is the Delta's whole character: a big, sure automatic for people who use a knife all day. The A3 Delta Mini brings the same mechanism to a 1.90-inch blade for those who want it smaller.

06

Availability

The Forged Carbon Edition is available on the A3 Delta product page alongside the standard handle options. Because it is an automatic, check our 50-state guide for the rules where you live before ordering.

People Are Asking

What are the A3 Delta's specifications?

A 3.60-inch D2 drop point blade, a 5.20-inch handle, 8.90 inches open, and 5.96 ounces. It is a side-opening automatic with a button lock and a safety switch.

What is forged carbon?

Carbon fiber strands set in resin under heat and pressure, which gives a marbled pattern no two pieces share. It is light, rigid and does not absorb moisture, and it is the handle material on our top folders as well as this Delta.

Is the A3 Delta legal where I live?

It is an automatic knife, so the same state rules apply as to an OTF. Our 50-state guide covers where automatics are legal, and the state pages cover blade length limits. At 3.60 inches the Delta clears most but not all of them.
